Abijah Mann & Betsey Graham Mann, came to Medina Township in 1816, having removed from Dummerston, Windham Co., Vermont.
1835 Charter member of the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, Ohio (now the Weymouth Community Church).
Abijah was a signer of resolutions adopted at the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, September 7, 1848.
"That the Bible furnishes no sanction or apology whatever for American Slavery— but on the contrary by its express teaching and its entire spirit fully exposes and utterly condemns all such slavery.
That slave holding in America is as great a crime as slave catching in Africa and indeed in consequence of the light of divine revelation shining here it is an immeasurably more aggregated crime.
That the teaching of the pulpit should expressly and in its whole tendency expose and condemn slaveholding.
That we will not admit slaveholding ministers to our pulpit or such as justify or apologize for slaveholders nor slaveholding professors of religion or such as justify or apologize for slaveholders to our communion.
That for a Church to have any such connections with slavery as sanctions or connives at it, is a reproach to the religion of Christ and a matter of grief and insults to Christ himself and to Holy Spirit, and must bring rebuke and darkness, and if persisted in, final desolation upon the Church and therefore,
That we do hereby request our Delegate to Presbytery to labor to seek a speedy separation of that body from the General Assembly with which it is connected and from all churches that hold fellowship with slavery.
That we regard the colored man as our brother “made of one blood” with us and entitled to the same rights and privileges in the Church and in the state that white men are entitled to.”
