Funeral services for Anna Cannon, 98, were conducted Feb. 5 at the Anchorage Lutheran Church, 15th Avenue & N Street. Pastor Rolland Fritz & Paul Birner officiated. A visitation was Feb. 4 at the Witzleben Funeral Home & Crematory, Bragaw Chapel. Mrs. Cannon died Saturday, Feb. 1, at her Anchorage residence.

Born in Portsmouth, England on July 8, 1887, she came to Alaska in December 1923, and lived in Cordova. She had worked at the old Anchorage Laundry, was a tailor and seamstress, and had also been employed by Wandling the Furrier. She was in charge of the fur displays at the first Anchorage Fur Rendezvous. As a child in England she met and knew Major Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Anchorage Lutheran Church and of the Pioneers of Alaska, Auxillary 4.

She is survived by one daughter, Gwendolyn Risch of Anchorage; one brother, Sidney Shepherd of Portsmouth, England; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Mrs. Cannon's great grandsons: Jason McKean, Scott McKean, Bradley Risch, Greg Risch, Mark Risch and Jeff Risch. The family has suggested memorial contributions be directed to the Salvation Army. Burial was at Anchorage Municipal Cemetery.
