Emma Augusta Alston (Sep 24, 1842 - Jun 3, 1929) was the daughter of Judge William Jeffreys ALSTON (1800-1876, son of Nathaniel Alston and Mary Grey) and Martha CADE (18 MAY 1809-28 May 1846, daughter of William Cade and Priscilla Easley). William Jeffreys Alston was a judge of Marengo Co., courthouse in Linden, Alabama. Home was nearby Magnolia, Alabama. He was a Whig Representative from Alabama to the 31st U.S. Congress. Buried: Alston family plot, Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Alabama.

Emma Augusta Alston married three times:

1. Benjamin F. MAY (or Benjamin T. May) - married on the 1860 census (physician), and 1870 (farmer) in Magnolia, Marengo Co., AL

2. Reuben Herndon ROBERTS - (previously of Mobile) moved to Birmingham (Jefferson Co.) and was widowed in 1873. This was the second marriage for both Reuben and Emma and took place 1 January 1874. The 1880 census shows him as a hardware merchant in Birmingham. He died May 1884. Emma and Reuben were distant cousins.

3. Caleb Smith MORTON, Jr. - (Nov 13, 1859 - Mar 2, 1945) married July 20, 1886 in Marengo County. He had grown up in Magnolia also, listed in the 1860 census. They are married and living in Marengo County on the 1900 and 1910 censuses, in Magnolia and Hampden respectively. In the 1920 census, they are living in Baldwin County with a niece named Sarah Robinson. Caleb Morton is buried in the Alston plot beside her, Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Marengo Co., AL.

Emma Augusta Alston was a 4th cousin of Col. William Murphy Inge (CSA) whose wife Augusta Evans Inge was called the Poet Laureate of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Emma Augusta Alston was a 4th cousin of Frank Crawford Vanderbilt of Mobile, wife of "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt.
Both her grandmother Mary Gray (Jeffreys) Alston and her mother-in-law Asenath Alexander Roberts were sixth cousins of Florence Chandler Maybrick.
