Piedad was born in Provincia Granma, Bayamo, Cuba. Her casket was placed in a sarcophagus on pedestals high enough to prevent flooding even in the even of high storm tides, which sometimes occur at this near sea level cemetery.

Her grandfather wrote the Cuban National Anthem

The best I can translate the inscription is:

Piety lies here, sad and Suffering
Belita cried her fleeting ecstasy
In love shone her precious face
And in her soul the virtue ......
Rest in peace.

Y en su alma la virtud......
