Herb passed away peacefully the morning of November 29, 2008 at the age of 84 after a sudden but brief battle with lung cancer. He was supported and surrounded by his daughter Suzanne and her husband John Sanna. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Esther N. He spent 26 years as a Los Angeles County Marshal (from 1953-1979) and served as a member of the City of Huntington Park (Los Angeles County¸CA) City Council for 20 years (1970-1990). During his years on the City Council, Herb served as Mayor five times. After his retirement from the LA County Marshal's office, he worked as a Senior Representative of Public Affairs for Gannett Outdoor Co. of Southern California for a number of years and then retired to St. George, Utah. Herb and Esther raised three children in Huntington Park, two sons, Richard and Steven and daughter, Suzanne. He proudly served in the Military twice (WWII and Korea) as did thousands of others with no special distinction other than he voluntarily enlisted both times because he believed in our government and wanted to protect his country.

Herb requested no services and was laid to rest alongside Esther at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma, California. Donations in Herb's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, USS Midway (San Diego) or your favorite charity.
