First Lady of Mexico. Amalia Alejandra Solórzano Bravo was the First Lady of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. She was the spouse of president Lázaro Cárdenas, the mother of the thrice ex-presidential candidate Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, and the grandmother of the former Governor of Michoacán, Lázaro Cárdenas Batel. On June 7, 1937 she received 456 refugee children victims of the Spanish Civil War, called "Children of Morelia." In November 21, 2007 the Spanish government decorated to her with the Great Cross of the Order of Carlos III in recognition of her humanitarian gesture.
