Mary McNutt, Former Suffrage Leader, Dies
Mary B. McNutt, 85, member of a pioneer Hoosier family that numbered many prominent attorneys, died today in the home of her son, John G. McNutt, 5438 Lowell.
Born at Madison, Mrs. McNutt, was the daughter of Charles A. and Mary (Bright) Korbly. Her father was an attorney at Madison and Indianapolis.
Mrs. McNutt came to Indianapolis 44 years ago. She had attended parochial schools at Madison and was graduated at in 1888 at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, of which she was the oldest living alumna. Always interested in the college, she was active in any project in its behalf. She took a prominent part in the movement for women's suffrage.
Her husband, John G. McNutt, a prominent Terre Haute attorney, died in 1910. One brother, the late Charles A. Korbly was United States Congressman from the Indianapolis district, and another, the late Bernard Korbly, practiced law here.
Mrs. McNutt was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and its Altar Society, members of which will meet at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel for recitation of the rosary. Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
