Ship owner, merchant mariner. He made his early fortune as the commander of privateering vessels during the Revolution, but after the war became one of the wealthiest of Salem's maritime traders, sending ships to Russia, India and the West Indies. He was the husband of Rachel Hathorne. He was the son of Thomas and Elinor Haely Forrester.
