Lillian, as she was known to her family & friends, was the daughter of the Rev. William Cecil Duncan, founding pastor of Coliseum Place Baptist Church, and Abby Elizabeth Juden.

On the 26th Feb 1878, she married Charles H.H. Cottrell in New Orleans. Charles was an early pioneer in the wire and telegraph industry. The family lived for years in Washington D.C. before returning to New Orleans.

Lillian and Charles had two sons, Charles Duncan & Leslie, who are both buried here.
