Scrib Gillies passed away on October 4, 2008, after a courageous battle with Cancer. He died on his 78th birthday after spending the day with much of his family at his side.

Scrib was born October 4, 1930 in Beaver, Utah to William H. and Irene Griffiths Gillies.

He married Shirley Ann Beeson on December 30, 1953 in Beaver, Utah. She passed away on June 14, 1957. He married DeAnn Twitchell on November 18, 1961 in Escalante, Utah.

Scrib graduated from Beaver High School and served in the Korean War with the 213th National Guard Unit. He owned and operated Scrib's Chevron in Panguitch for 26 years. He served and loved his regulars and the tourists. He was a partner in Gillies and Associates Insurance Agency for eight years. After retiring he worked for Bryce-Zion Trail Rides in Bryce Canyon until illness made it no longer possible.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Scrib enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved the people, towns, and hills of Beaver and Garfield counties. He raised and raced thoroughbred horses for much of his life. He also loved his firewood and fireplace. He found joy in plowing the snow from the walks and drives of many in town for years.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his honesty, and his love of life.

Scrib is survived by his wife, DeAnn; children: Brad (Sandy) Gillies, Stansbury Park; Jana (Bryan) Crist, Murray; Lori (Wade) Beebe, Escalante; Kimberly (Sean) Stewart, Tropic; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sister, June Stephenson, Delta. He is preceded in death by parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Lee

Graveside Services and Interment will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Beaver City Cemetery with Full Military Rites accorded by the Beaver American Legion Post #32. Friends may call at the Panguitch Stake Center on Saturday morning from 10-11 a.m.
