Born in San Francisco on March 24, 1932, he was a descendant of Don Jose Francisco de Ortega, discoverer of San Francisco Bay.
He was a lifelong resident of California. Enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, Mr. Aceves served with the 5th Air Force in Korea during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Receiving an honorable discharge in 1954, he attended college in pursuit of a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Aceves later went to work for Lockheed in Sunnyvale, where he enjoyed an exciting 30 year career as an electrical engineer, finally etiring in 1989. During his career he worked on the Polaris missile system, the Agena program and several satellite programs. His career culminated in the training of shuttle astronauts for a
number of shuttle missions. He was also a lecturer on space science.
An ardent traveler, Mr. Aceves also enjoyed classic films, genealogy, history, camping and he was a connoisseur of bourbon. His greatest interest and love was always his family. Mr. Aceves was a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 18 of Campbell, Ca., the Oakhurst Elks Lodge and E Clampus Vitus Chapter 41-49 of Oakhurst. Mr. Aceves is survived by his wife Trudy Aceves of Oakhurst; sister Laura Liccardo of Saratoga; children William and Cynthia Aceves II of Parker, Co.; Michael and Jill Aceves of San Jose; Christina and Thomas McBride of Oakhurst; Ramona and Bruce McIntosh of Tuscon, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his children Janet Aceves and Christopher Marquez. He will be deeply missed by his family, longtime friend Bippie Mattos of Oakhurst and others.
Services will be held Saturday, April 17 at the New Community United Methodist Church in Oakhurst at 2:00 p.m. There will be a gathering immediately following at his daughter's home at 38023 Pine Meadows Lane in Oakhurst.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Nancy Hines Hospice, 1616 West Shaw Ave., Suite C-1, Fresno 93711-3513.
