Miles Pierce Allgood was born circa 1834 in South Carolina, son of Deforest Allgood (1815-1900) and Temperance Clayton (1814-1845).

Miles had four siblings: Stephen Calvin Allgood (1836-1863); Temperance Elvira Allgood (1839-1865); William Barnett Allgood (1841-1924); and Baylous Clayton Allgood (1843-1920). Miles' mother died young and Miles' father subsequently married Arena Tidwell (1816-1879) and had the following six children who would be half-siblings to Miles: Francis Marion Allgood (1849-1891); Louisa Jane Allgood (1850-1933); John Bannister Allgood (1852-1923); Martha C. Allgood (1855- ); Rufus Alexander Allgood (1855-1937); and Asa Allgood (1857-1857).

The 1850 Federal Census for Subdivision 18, Alabama (Blount County) shows Miles Allgood, age 15, born in South Carolina; living with his father, Deforest Allgood, age 34, born in South Carolina; and his stepmother, Herricanna (Arena), age 34, born in Tennessee. Also living in the household were Miles siblings: Stephen Allgood, age 14, born in South Carolina; Elvira Allgood, age 10, born in Alabama; Bennett Allgood, age 8, born in Alabama; and Clayton Allgood, age 7, born in Alabama; as well as a half-sibling, Francis Allgood, age 2, born in Alabama.

Miles married Mary Elizabeth Foust, who was born January 27, 1833 in Alabama, daughter of William Foust (1808-1858) and Sarah Ann 'Sally' Bynum (1810-1847). The Alabama Marriage Collection shows the marriage of Miles Allgood and Mary E. Foust on November 25, 1852 in Blount County, Alabama.

Miles and Mary would have five children: Franklin Pierce Allgood (1854-1925); Margaret Temoe Allgood (1856-1942); Queen Ann Allgood (1858-1952); Jefferson Davis Allgood (1861-1936); and Miles Allgood Jr. (1862- ).

The 1860 Federal Census for Division 1, Alabama (Blount County) shows Miles P. Allgood, age 26, born in South Carolina; and his wife, Mary, age 27, born in Alabama. Also living in the household were three children: Franklin P. Allgood, age 5; Margaret Allgood, age 4; and Sarah (Queen Ann) Allgood, age 2; all born in Alabama.

The U.S. Confederate Soldiers Compiled Service Records shows that in 1861, Miles P. Allgood, age 26, enlisted in the Third (Forrest's) Regiment of the Tennessee Cavalry in Company E. The Alabama Civil War Muster Rolls show that M. P. Allgood later served as a private in Company K of the 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment.

Miles died February 14, 1863 and was buried in the Allgood Cemetery in Blount County, Alabama.

The 1870 Federal Census for East Half, Alabama (Blount County) shows Mary E. Allgood, age 35, born in Alabama. Living with her were three children: Margaret Allgood, age 13; Sarah Allgood, age 12; and Jefferson Davis Allgood, age 9; all born in Alabama.

In 1878, Mary married Thomas Anderson Sumpter, who was born in 1825 in Tennessee. Mary and Thomas had one child together, Angie Lena Sumpter, born 1888 in Texas. Thomas died sometime before 1900.

The 1900 Federal Census for Caney, Arkansas (Little River County) shows Mary Sumpter, a widow, age 66, born June 1833 in Alabama, and living with her son, Franklin Pierce Allgood. The 1910 Federal Census for Township 4, Oklahoma (McCurtain County) shows Mary Sumpter, a widow, age 76, born in Alabama, and living in the home of her married daughter, Angie Sumpter Simpson. The 1920 Federal Census for Caney, Arkansas (Little River County) shows Mary Sumpter, a widow, age 87, born in Alabama, living with her married daughter, Sarah Queen Gist, age 60, born in Alabama; and her husband, John E. Gist, age 61, born in Arkansas.
