Born Aug. 31, 1954, in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Carroll B. and Edith S. Long.
After graduating from Bob Jones University with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible (1976) and a Master of Arts. in Pastoral Studies (1978), he moved to California to begin 30 years of ministry. He earned an M.Ed., from Azusa Pacific University (1991) and taught at Grace Brethren School in Simi Valley for 18 years. He was currently an English teacher at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village and the life development pastor at Life Spring Church in Moorpark.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 18 years, Karen Severson Long; his son, Devin Michael Long; two sisters, Gail L. Nicholas of Greenville, S.C., and Jane L. Hewitt of Dover, Del.; one brother, Carl E. Long of Wellford, S.C., and their spouses; seven nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Erling and Gene Severson; and his brother-in-law, Karl Severson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village, Calif., with Pastor Tony Amatangelo officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the family-owned and -operated Rose Family Funeral Home, Simi Valley.
