Former Alaskan Stanley "Nick" Eugene Nickerson, 63, died of a heart attack Dec. 14 at his home in Battleground, Wash. Services were held Dec. 18 in Battleground.

Born Jan. 24, 1929, in Wakefield, Mass., Mr. Nickerson was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. He came to Alaska in 1952. A retired civil-service worker at the Fort Richardson field printing plant, Mr. Nickerson had owned Lazy Mountain Trailer Court in Eagle River. He was a charter member of Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, served on the Anchorage Water and Wastewater Commission, and he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Chugiak. In addition to coaching the first Little League team in Eagle River, he also helped coach hockey in the early days of Chugiak High School, his family said. The Nickersons moved to Washington 1985. In retirement, Mr. Nickerson enjoyed all sports, hunting, woodworking, gardening and traveling.

The family requests that memorial donations be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
