Grace was the daughter of Oliver and Grace Leola Wright Iverson. Grace was born in the time period of the great flu epidemic which was spread throughout the country. Her mother died from complication of childbirth and the flu. She was given the name Grace Amelia, after her mother and her fathers sister who had died the previous winter.

Oliver gave up his farm in Conrad and took his tiny 4 pound daughter home to his parents in Kalispell, Montana. Knut and Anne, who were then 69 and 64 years respectively, took on the task of caring for their infant granddaughter. She was so tiny she was not expected to live. But baby Grace did live and filled the empty place in their lives that had been left with the death of their youngest daughter Kalla Amelia.

As a child Grace learned to speak Norwegian from her grandparents, and English from her cousins and playmates.

Grace married Joseph Kenneth Toole, on June 4, 1941 in Kalispell, Flathead County, Montana. For a number of years this couple lived in Odgen, Utah. Ken's work brought them to Portland,Oregon where they lived until retirement. And eventually settling in the Central Oregon, town of LaPine.

Grace was very artistic. Her landscape paintings were beautiful. She also was a tole painter, and taught classes for a time.

Grace and Ken had one son, Gary Alan Toole.
