The son of Barney Lynn Freeman and Marie Gonzales Freeman. He graduated from Furman University in 1943 and The Medical University of South Carolina in 1946. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital during WWII. He performed his orthopedic residency with Dr. A.T. Moore in Columbia and opened his medical practice in Charleston in 1955. Dr. Freeman was on the teaching staff of The MUSC Department of Orthopedics, was a member of The American Medical Association and was past president of The SC Orthopedic Society. He was a Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon and a member of The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He served on the Board of Counselors for AAOS. He was a former member of the Arion Society and a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry.
