Doris was born the daughter of Walter Samuel Maeder and Nina Beatrice Southworth. She was displaced from her parental home due to divorce and was raised by her aunt Magdalene (Maeder) Morton and her uncle Edward in Pittsburg.
She attended nursing school and became a RN.
She was married to John Jeanisse in 1959 and with him they raised two daughters: Pamala Jeanise and Elizabeth (Missy) Jeanissee.
