John was born in Killy Maddy, County, Armagh, Ireland in 1811 - he came to American were he married Oct. 30, 1843 Cooper County, Missouri to Mary Jane Johnston, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Shirley) Johnston. He lived a few years in Cooper County and then moved to St. Clair County where he lived for the rest of his life. He died 1886 and was buried at the Pleasant Springs Cemetery, Roscoe, St. Clair County, Missouri. John and Mary Jane had ten children, all girls.
