The following obituary is from the Peoria, IL newspaper, issue of December 12, 1986:
LEWIS WOODRUFF
Lewis M. Woodruff, 96, of 415 N. Cooper died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Methodist Medical Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1890 in Wessington, S.D., to the Rev. Hubert W. and Amy Vaughn Woodruff, he married Constance Noste Aug. 22, 1922, in Ashton, S.D.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Hubert W. of Salem, Vaughn N. of Wilmette and M. Lee of Los Angeles; one daughter, Mrs. Corinne Michel, wife of Rep. Robert Michel, of Peoria; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph of South St. Paul, Minn.; one stepsister Louise Blanchard in California; and two half sisters, Huberta Pearce and Ardys Doherty, in the state of Washington.
An Army veteran of World War I, he served in Mexico from 1916-17, and in France with the American Expeditionary Forces Field Artillery, Rainbow Division, from 1917-19.
He was a reporter for the Federal Marketing Bureau at the Peoria Union Stock Yards for 33 years before retiring in September 1960. He also was a representative of the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a member and past president of the Peoria Poetry Club.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wilton Mortuary, where visitation will begin one hour earlier. The Rev. hnry G. hein will officiate and burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
