Stephen B. Allgood Dies of Pneumonia
Stephen Bostick Allgood, age 70 years, died at the home of J. Fayette Stephens on Route 1, Oneonta, on October 17th. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia, but he had been practically an invalid for about 15 years. He was a member of one of the pioneer and most prominent families of Blount county. lie was a son of the late Dr. W. B. and Mrs. Mary (Ingram) Allgood, and was 70 years of age, having been born at Chepultepec, March 6, 1873. Mr. Allgood was a Rural Route Carrier out of Oneonta from 1908 until 1920 when he was forced to retire because of injuries received in an accident. He was a good man, a member of the Methodist Church and was noted for his loyalty and goodness of disposition. As long as his health permitted, he was very attentive to his friends, who were ill or in need. He was always ready and willing to do what he could to relieve the suffering of humanity. For the past several years he had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Stephens, who were very attentive to his well-being. Surviving are: his step-mother, Mrs. Eliza (Clowdus) Allgood, Birmingham; .two daughters, Mrs. Paul Rule and Miss Irene Allgood, of Birmingham; two brothers, M. C. Allgood, of Alexandria, Va., Route 1 and Dr. Homer W. Allgood, of Birmingham. Funeral services were held at the Allgood Methodist Church, and were conducted by Rev. W. L. Hendricks. Burial was at Shiloh Cemetery, with Drinkard in charge. Pall bearers were: J. P. Burnum, G. T. Tidwell, Leonard Blackwood, E. A. Tidwell, Wilford Hartley and S. T. Jenkins.
