Mrs. Brand was born October 19, 1930 at her parents' home in Parkersburg, one of seven children of the late Okey G.and Verta E. Holbert Murphy.
She had worked as a seamstress for various local businesses including Yonkers for several years, Meade's Sewing Machine and at the Willows Nursing Home. She was a member of the Chesterville United Methodist Church and was an avid line dancer.
Mrs. Brand is survived by five of her eight children, James Michael Brand of Pettyville, Gary Foster Brand of Mineral Wells, Carol Brand of Frazier's Bottom, WV, Jeffrey W. Brand of Richmond, VA, Terri DeVaughn of Statesville, NC, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two brothers William "Bill" Murphy, Samuel Murphy, two sisters Lillie Richards, Betty Moss and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brand was preceded in death by her husband James Foster Brand, 3 daughters Patty Hupp and 2 infant daughters, one brother Andrew Murphy, and one sister Gertrude Joy.
The funeral services for Mrs. Brand will be at 3:00 pm Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg with Reverend Paul Williams officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday.
