US Congressman. Born in San Saba County, Texas, he served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot in World War II. After the war he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1947 and married Jacqueline Meyer in 1951. His employment with Procter & Gamble led the family to Memphis, Tennessee in 1955, where he was regional manager for five states. Kuykendall was elected to Congress in 1966, re-elected in 1968, 1970 and 1972, and served on the House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce; he was a close supporter of President Nixon through the Watergate scandal. He continued as a lobbyist and consultant in Washington for the next 25 years and moved back to Memphis to be near family.
