Colleen Evans Abate, our sweet mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Syracuse surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born October 7, 1932, in Lehi, Utah to Ruel and Beulah Bone Evans.
She graduated from Lehi High School in 1950 and attended BYU. She married James J. Abate on December 24, 1959. He died in 1977. They resided in Sunset, Utah for many years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an avid reader and a huge fan of the Utah Jazz!
Colleen began her career in the Utah County Sheriff's Office and then worked for the Courts of Utah in Provo, Clearfield, and Layton for 45 years where she made many lifelong friends. In 1992, she was given the Meritorious Service Award for her significant contributions. She retired in 1999.
Colleen was preceded in death by parents; husband; dear sister, Joan; brother, Gene; and great-grandson Bridger. She is survived by her loving brothers, Morgan (Charlyn) and Michael (Diane); children, Glenn (Carmen), Susan (Mary), Jeff (Beth), Kathleen (Dale) Cook; 10 grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Cook, James (Maira) Abate, Shana (Stewart) Christensen, Steven(Sarah) Cook, Michael (Miah) Cook, Ashlyn (Kyle) Compton, Spencer (Hilary) Cook, Madison (Landon) Greenhalgh, Ethan Abate, Connor Abate; and 14 great-grandchildren. The grandkids and great grandkids were the loves of her life!
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at Lindquist's Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, Utah, with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Interment in Lehi, Utah.
