William Bennett (Bill) Gibbs, 82, lifelong resident and rancher of Elko County passed away at the family ranch after a battle with cancer. With his wife of 59 years, Mary, they raised seven children. Bill was in the ranching business for 64 years, and was proud of passing on to the fifth generation of the family ownership in W.H. Gibbs' Co. ranch. As a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Bill was a faithful supporter of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Wells, Nevada. He was a charter member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Council of the Knights of Columbus. As a Fourth Degree member, he served the needs of the local parish and community for 14 years. Bill was elected to three terms as Elko County Commissioner and served three years as chairman. He served on the board of the Nevada Cattlemen's Association and was a director on the Multiple Use Board of the BLM. He was elected to numerous county boards - Elko County Farm Bureau President, Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Board, three terms as director on Wells Rural Electric Board and the Soil Conservation Board, winning Conservation Rancher of the Year. Bill served on the Nevada Home Health Board and the Hospital Board. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; a sister, Kathleen (Katie) Knudsen of Elko; Children: Sandra Depaoli and husband Rick of Fernley, William H. Gibbs and wife Lana of Wells, Barbara Patterson and husband Jim of Gig Harbor, WA, Margaret Gibbs of Wells, Theresa Dinkins and husband Jerry of Ogden, UT, Sarah Botts and husband Gary of Wells, Susan Novak and husband Rick of Carson City; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother William H. and Dessa L. Gibbs of Wells, and his granddaughter Nicole Andrae of Wells.
