Civil War Union Army Officer. The son of Colonel William Halsted, he was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster of his fathers unit, the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry, on August 26, 1861. He served until he was dismissed by the Officers Review Board on October 18, 1861.
