David Shannon Randle, born on February 20, 1960, in Augusta, Georgia, beloved father to Margaret Newsome "Maggie" and Hunter McGuire, husband, partner, and friend to Lori Belk Randle for 29 years, found peace on August 31, 2022, after a courageous battle with ALS.

David graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1978, where he played football for the Black Knights, and as a captain and All American, played lacrosse. He went on to play for the University of Virginia lacrosse team, but eventually followed other endeavors with intervening years in Boston. David graduated from the University of Virginia in 1986. He pursued a legal career after graduating from Cumberland School of Law in 1991, and went on to practice as an attorney in Central Virginia for 30 years. David loved the calm, order, and procedure of the courtroom as well as the simplicity and beauty of the historic Virginia courthouses.

David was the eldest son of Judith Bransford Randle of Fluvanna and Ulmo Shannon (Sonny) Randle of Culpeper, Virginia. David was preceded in death by his father, Sonny and is survived and very deeply missed by his mother, Judith B. Randle; sisters, Sandra Randle Lambert of Brooklyn, New York, and Bethany Randle Hatheway of Brooklyn, New York; and brother, Evan Hunter Randle of Bristow, Virginia.

David grew up in St. Louis, San Francisco, and Greenville, N.C. though lived the majority of his life in Charlottesville, where he leaves behind many dear friends.

In life David held special places in his heart for Cape May, N.J., where he worked at the Chalfonte Hotel during his college years, Fork Union, Virginia, where he spent the fondest parts of childhood with cousins and his grandmother and grandaddy, Hunter and Thelma Bransford, Boston where he worked and lived, as well as the beaches and waters of northeastern Virginia and North Carolina. David was most at peace by the water, in the kitchen, coaching youth basketball and lacrosse, and driving around the Virginia hills and Blue ridge Mountains with Henry the family dog by his side.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to The ALS Association at www.als.org for the funding of research to advance the understanding, treatment, and a cure for the disease.

The entire family would like to thank the many friends who surrounded and fortified David, Lori, Maggie, and Hunter in this fight, the caregivers for all of their support during these last years, and a special thanks to Albemarle Health and Rehab for their most professional and compassionate care over David's last month.

A service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville to honor and celebrate David's life. All are warmly invited.
