Politician. William Barber was a New Zealand politician and businessman whos served as the Member of the New Zealand Parliament for Newtown for the entirety of the Newtown electorates existence. Barber worked at and eventually ran his fathers dye works, also finding time to represent the Wellington Woollen Company as director and later chairman. Although a member of the Liberal Party, Barber had an interest in its splinter group the New Liberal Party. For twenty-six years he served as a councillor for the Wellington City Council. In 1935 he was awarded the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal.
