Assigned to Battery C, 4th Bn, 77th Artillery, 101st Airborne Division.

On the night of March 3, 1970 he was a passenger aboard a UH-1H helicopter (tail number 68-15571) belonging to Headquarters Battery, 4/77, and assigned as part of a security detail being flown to LZ Sally. The aircraft departed Camp Evans and was observed by infantry in the field to be flying southwest toward a ridge. The aircraft crashed into the ridge resulting in the loss of all aboard.
