LAWRENCE BERNARD ALLEN SR. was the son of Lawrence Daniel Allen and Mrs. Lillie Arabell (Allison) Allen.

Obituary
"Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Lawrence Bernard Allen, 87, died April 3, 2001. Born in Hope, Arkansas, and reared in Marshall, Texas, Mr. Allen had been a Peninsula resident for the past 23 years. Mr. Allen was a veteran of World War II and Korea, and he served in the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring with 27 years combined service.

After his military retirement, Mr. Allen was involved in restaurant and hotel management. He was longtime member of the Utica Masonic Lodge No. 337, F&AM, Watson, Indiana, and he was a member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News.

Preceded in death by his wife, Edna Irwin Allen; a brother; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Mark ''Mike'' Harvey. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Ayn Harvey, of Virginia Beach, and Patricia Allen Cox, and her husband, James E. ''Scooter'' Cox, of Marshall, Texas; a son, Lawrence B. Allen Jr., of Bossier City, Louisiana; a brother, Ray C. Allen, of Marshall, Texas; seven grandchildren including Mark Harvey, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Allison Harvey, of Richmond, Virginia; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rudolph Tucker and the Rev. Rita Staul officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park with full military honors and Masonic rites.

The family received friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Virginia."
