Roy Doone's birth name was Ransom Nichols. He was one of 12 children of Abner Jefferson Nichols and Mary Theresa Shoemaker.

He had a total of 20 siblings, some half-siblings as his father was married 3 times. His mother was married 4 times, but only had children with her first husband, Abner.

Siblings:
Jefferson Nichols
Martha Jane Nichols (Yeoman)
Phoebe Nichols (died infancy)
James Nichols
Twin girls (unknown what happened to them)
Elijah Daniel Nichols
Twin girls (died of measles with their mother Elizabeth)
Hiram Calvin Nichols (died infancy)
James William Nichols
Joseph Jessie Nichols
Mable Elvira Nichols
Abner Leonard Nichols
Effie May Nichols (Funk)
Raymond Albert Nichols
Violet Anna Nichols (Chaney)
Mary Elizabeth Nichols (died infancy)
Elmer Richard Nichols (died infancy)
Arthur Earl Nichols

He married Frances Marie Kleiner (widowed: Clark). They raised 3 sons, Robert, Richard and Raymond. He died young of bladder cancer, but according to his boys, was a wonderful husband and father.

***Ransom disappeared from Colorado around 1910 or 1911. He changed his name to Roy Doone and claimed to have entered the Canadian Military. I have photos of him in uniform, one showing Sergeant stripes on his jacket, dated 1923. So far, I have not been able to locate any military records, under any name for him.

To further add to the confusion, his gravestone says "Robert Doone".
