Maxine Mae Grieser, 99, passed away on April 13th, 2023. She was born in Klamath Falls, OR on November 9, 1923, the daughter of Clyde and Zena Barks. Her first home was on a ranch near Merrill, OR that her grandfather homesteaded in 1890. Maxine was proud to be a part of three generations of homesteaders in the Klamath Falls- Tulelake basin, starting with her grandfather, followed by her father, a WW1 veteran who was awarded a homestead in 1931. Lastly her brother Bill, a WW2 veteran was awarded a homestead in 1948.

Maxine attended school in Tulelake, her first years being held in a one room schoolhouse. In high school a proud and fun moment was when she was crowned "Potato Princess"! Later she attended and graduated from University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. While there she was in a group of ten girls, referred to as "The Big Ten". A book called "We" was written and published about them and a copy is in the archives at UOP. These ten were lifelong friends, getting together several times a year. Now there is just one member left.

Also, while attending college, she met her husband to be, Milt Grieser. Following his graduation and while serving two years as a Naval officer, they were married on a 30 day leave. After the war, he started a long career in the telecommunication industry which required being transferred five times, from Sacramento to Modesto, San Francisco, Portland, Salem and finally Seattle. Maxine always said she enjoyed the moves and made lasting friendships at each location.

In her active years Maxine did much volunteer work, enjoyed traveling, bridge and crafts. Her main interest was her family, Milt and daughters Beverly, Barbara and Betsey. She was a 60 year PEO member, lifelong Presbyterian and active in several volunteer groups. Her husband, Milt, passed away in 2012. She leaves her three daughters, Beverly Nelson, Barbara MacPherson (James), Betsey Clarke, niece Charlotte Barks and her son, Eric, five grandchildren, David Nelson (Cameron), Bryan Nelson (Jen), Kristy Dwight (Kevin), Josh MacPherson, Lael Schneider (Brent) and six great grandchildren: Avery and Brody Schneider, Clayton and Kaylee Nelson and Reese and Nix Nelson!

Maxine's family wants to express gratitude for the incredibly loving, personal attention given to her by the staff at Meadows Place. Thank you to each staff member who always made our Mom feel so at home!
