Gary Allen Antell, 51, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Friday, February 27, 2004, at the Mahnomen Health Care Center, Mahnomen, MN. He was born on November 11, 1952, to Isaac and Beatrice (Keezer) Antell in White Earth, MN. He was raised and attended school in Naytahwaush, graduated from the Mahnomen High School in 1970, and graduated from Minnesota State Technical college in Detroit Lakes, MN, with carpentry and auto mechanics degrees. He lived in Minneapolis, MN for a short time.
In 1978, Gary was united in marriage to Sheila Hariluk at Naytahwaush. Gary worked for Rick Eudy as a mechanic for several years. He also worked for the White Earth Youth Bureau. Gary was injured and permanently disabled in the mid 1980's. He was united in marriage to Janice Beaulieu at Rice Lake, MN in 1987. After his disability, Gary began making crafts using deer antlers, leather, bark and wood. He made pens, game boards, pipes and others useful items. People all over the world have bought his craftwork. In 2000, Gary was diagnosed with cancer.
Gary was a creative person who would often wake up in the night with an idea to make a craft. He would get up immediately and start the project, usually finishing in the morning. In his early years, Gary enjoyed racing cars. Recently, he sponsored cars in the demolition derbies. In the last few years, Gary traveled with his daughters to various places in the United States.
Gary is survived by one son, Tim (Brenda), Waubun, MN; three daughters: Jean, Andrea, and Shelly Antell, all of Mahnomen; one step-son, Jordan Pergl, Mahnomen; his mother, Beatrice Antell, Mahnomen; one sister, Debra (Carl) Morris, Mahnomen; six grandchildren; and several cousins. His father, Isaac, and one brother, Clifford precede him in death.
