10427 Pte Vernon Frank Hoare (AKA Mullett) 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Born in Sturminster Marshall, his mother died when he was only a couple of months old, and Vernon was adopted by his aunt and uncle – John and Mary Mullett. He assumed the name Mullett locally. Vernon enlisted for the Great War in September 1914 in Wimborne having previously been a horseman on the Kingston Lacy estate. Discharged from the Army on the 2nd October 1916 due to wounds received at Gallipoli on the 10th August 1915. This gunshot wound to the spine had left him paralyzed from the waist down. Vernon Died on the 24th May 1917 aged 22 at Duchess of Norfolk Home in Littlehampton.
