Professional Football Player. After graduating from high school, he attended Tyler Junior College for one semester and then worked for his father for one year. After this year, he joined the United States Marines and served in Korea. After returning to the States, he played football for the Camp Pendleton team that won the West Coast Marine Championship. His time on the Marines team earned him a scholarship to the University of Arkansas, where he became one of the greatest-all around players in Razorback history. In 1955, the New York Giants drafted him but chose to remain in college instead. After graduating, he elected to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Ottawa Rough Riders, where he spent four seasons as an offensive halfback. He was a player on Ottawa's 1960 Grey Cup team that won the championship that year. In 1961 he was voted the team's outstanding player and a nominee for the league's MVP award. During his time with the Riders, he ran for 552 yards on 93 attempts, scoring four rushing touchdowns. He also caught ten passes for 72 yards in the 50 games that he played in. In 1991 he was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 1999. After leaving the CFL, he became a salesman for a large building company, where he was employed for 47 years before he retired. After retiring, he played golf and volunteered at local VA hospitals.
