Rush Springs: Freddie Dean Fitzgerald, 74, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in Oklahoma City.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 7, 2023, at the First Assembly of God Church in Rush Springs, with Rev. David Hale, Rev. Tom Lemke, and Kenny Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services.
Public visitation will be available Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday, April 7, from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
Fred was born Monday, June 7, 1948 in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Gene Douglas Fitzgerald and Elvada (Tatum) Fitzgerald. He grew up in Bray, Oklahoma and graduated from the Bray High School in 1966. Fred went on to attend college at Murray State College and Cameron University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in education. In 1973, Fred married the love of his life, Becky (Ball) Fitzgerald at the First Baptist Church in Sterling, Oklahoma, and they lived together in Rush Springs for forty-nine and a half years. "Mr. Fitzgerald" worked at the Rush Springs Middle School for 38 years driving buses as well as teaching history, math, and social studies to many generations of students. Over the years, he also spent time working for Cline Industry in Rush Springs, Dolese Brothers at the Richards Spurs Plant, the Canadian Valley Vo-Tech in Chickasha, the oilfield industry as a welder, and as a summer counselor for ASCOG. He was a member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church and was always very involved with his community. Fred enjoyed welding, reading, singing, announcing at rodeos, and taking care of his cattle. He loved spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren on vacations. Fred touched the lives of many with his hard work and dedication to his community, and he will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
