Before any of the business of the Council was proceeded with, the Mayor announced to the Council the death of the late Mr. Wm. Henry Boulton. The MAYOR said - It is with extreme regret I have to announce to this Council a circumstance which happened a day or two ago, when one of the oldest and most respected of our citizens was taken away by the act of Providence. I refer to the death of Mr. Wm. Henry Boulton, a gentleman who at one time held a position in the Council, and was for some years Mayor of the city of Toronto. I now bring the matter before the Council for them to take what steps they please.
VOTE OF CONDOLENCE
Ald. SHEARD moved as an amendment to the orders of the day, seconded by Ald. BOUSTEAD, the following resolution: - "Resolved, that this Council desire to record an expression of the regret with which they receive the melancholy announcement of the death of William Henry Boulton, Esq., who for the term of eleven years, namely the years 1838-39-40-41-42-44-45-46-47-52-58, sat as an alderman at this board, during four of which, namely the years 1845-46-47-58, he filled the civic chair as Mayor, while his services have been also given to the city as a member of the Parliament of Canada. The Council desire to offer to his wife and family an expression of respectful condolence, and as a further mark of respect will on tomorrow follow his remains to their last resting place, and do now adjourn." The resolution as unanimously adopted. It was also resolved that the members of the Council should meet in the Council Chamber at one o'clock p.m. to-day (Tuesday), and from thence proceed to the late residence of the deceased to follow the corpse to the grave.
