Born a slave of William H. Higginbotham in about 1843 on a plantation near Social Circle, Walton County, GA; he grew up as a house servant.
Military/War - He entered the military during the Civil War, joining the 119th New York Regiment, and served 11 months with General William T. Sherman. He mustered out a free man.
Worcester arrival - He went North and settled in Elmira, NY, and eventually, in about 1884, came and settled in Worcester
Occupation/s - Employed by the Boston & Maine RR as a janitor at Union Station, for over 22 years
