Son of a Rev. William Trimble Beatty and a Sarah Colwell (Fulton) Beatty. He was recorded as having been baptized on 26 Narch 1865 at the Presbyterian Church in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.

Husband of a Valerie Lee (Jones) Beatty, whom he married on 2 April 1891 in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in a ceremony solemnized by a William E. Needham.

William and Valerie were recorded as being the parents of a Joseph Mulford Beatty (elsewhere also recorded as being named Joseph Jones Beatty).

Records indicate that at the time of his death he had retired in 1931 as the President of the Austin Manufacturing Company.

While records indicated that he died by his own hand, the same record did not indicate what the final disposition of his ashes were, but states that he was cremated at Cypress Lawn on 7 February 1933. As his wife, Valerie was later buried there, it is logical that his cremated remains may have been interred there as well.
