ROBERT GRAY ANDERSON, died February 23, 2008 at his home in Memphis. He was born Novemeber 15, 1918, near Trenton, TN. He attended Peabody High School in Trenton, the University of Tennessee-Martin and graduated from UT-Knoxvillein 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Sixth Ranger Battalion in the Pacific during WWII and received the Bronze Star from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his role in the liberation of the U.S. prisoners of war at Cabanatuan prison camp. At the ceremony President Roosevelt told the soldiers, "I want you boys to know that I think this is the most thrilling story that has come out of the war. Most people want to meet the president, but I requested that I meet you." Bob married Theresa Lawler who survives him, on April 10, 1945. He was retired from Prudential Insurance Company and Burrow Appraisal and Consulting Services. He was a member and a former deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in Cordova. He also leaves a son, Stephen L. Anderson; a daughter-in-law, Roberta and two grandsons, Robert Gray Anderson II and John Bayard Anderson, all of Rossville, TN. Visitation will beheld from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 26 at Trinity Baptist Church of Cordova. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Trinity Baptist Church.
