Passed away peacefully after a long illness. Don was predeceased by his father, Donald Black Saunderson; his mother, Marie de Mont-Carmel Saunderson (Arsenault); his sister, Dr. Heather Jane, and is survived by his nephew, Christopher Ross Saunderson. He will be sadly missed by the two wonderful women in his life, Eileen Hogan and Jane Saunderson (Sutherland); his many relatives and friends. Don was educated in Halifax receiving his elementary school education at Saint Francis of Assisi, his High School at Saint Patrick's High School, and University at Saint Mary's University where he graduated with a B.Comm. Don knew at an early age that he wanted to work and own a car dealership. He started learning the business at Bob MacDonald's and eventually started his own dealership buying Isnor Motors when it was a single showroom dealership on Brunswick Street. He built it into a thriving enterprise selling Mercedes, and Subarus. Don became an avid competitive sailor at an early age. He belonged to AYC, and RNSYS; won many local, provincial, and Maritime competitions sailing a 23 foot open cockpit Roue designed Bluenose on the North West Arm. Don was as well a devoted salmon fly fisherman his whole life. He would fly fish for salmon every year on the Upsalquitch River in northern New Brunswick at the Black Fishing Camp. For over 50 years Don never missed a year of his beloved angling with his friends. He loved the sport and he loved the river and worked throughout his life to protect the fish stocks and the river. Later in life Don took up scuba diving as a hobby. Reflective of all his interests, he quickly dove in and became an instructor with the safety of the diving group as his number one priority. Don had deep roots in Prince Edward Island where his mother came from and where he spent all his early summers with family and continued that tradition for the rest of his life. He was proud of his Prince Edward Island family roots and his many, many friends from his beloved Isle. He loved nothing more than receiving his annual case of Prince Edward Island oysters, and lobster get-togethers with family and friends. Don travelled widely loving the cultures and countries he visited over the years. He would always introduce his friends to unique wines and was a connoisseur of world beers that he learned about in his travels. He truly was a citizen of the world. He will be deeply missed by his relatives, and friends. His family wish to thank his doctors, nurses, and homecare givers for all the devoted work, care, and love they provided Don.
