While his obituary in The Winnipeg Daily Tribune gives a birthdate of 2 June 1820, his baptismal record states a birthdate of 7 July 1821.

Alexander's second wife was Isabella (Belle) Stewart, born 12 April 1850 in Perth, Ontario, and died 16 February 1910 in Toronto, Ontario.
