Sigismund Walker Alexander, Sr. (Siggy) was born on July 26, 1949, in New
Orleans, Louisiana. He was the third child of Firnist James Alexander, Sr. and Margaret Walker Alexander. His formative years were rooted in family, the Christian Church and school. As a student, Siggy excelled at both Isable Elementary in Jackson and later moved to New Orleans for high school, to Walter L. Cohen, where he became an excelsior trumpetier in the marching band. In 1966, he volunteered with Americorp in Colorado Springs, Colorado for a year before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1967. While enlisted and serving in Vietnam, he was meritoriously awarded a medal for expert marksmanship as a Marine Corp Sniper and specialized in biological and chemical weapons at the rank of Corporal. Upon returning to the United States and dealing from the challenges of the war in Vietnam, Siggy's geo-political views and ideological thinking were sharpened after joining the Republic of New Africa. He served as Imari Obadele's security detail along with his friend Chokwe Lumumba. Using the GI Bill, he enrolled in Tougaloo College in Fall of 1971, where he met the love of his life Norma Jean Grice of Baldwyn, MS. They were engaged Valentine's Day 1972, when he drove up to Baldwyn, MS to propose to Norma and Ms. Lillie Mae Grice, Norma's mother. Fortunately, both accepted the proposal. In November, 1972, Sigismund (Siggy) Walker Alexander and Norma Jean Grice were married at the home of her aunt and uncle, Tommie Lee and Virginia Grice. In the Fall 1975, they traveled with his parents to Cuernavaca, Mexico to visit the home of world-renown artists Elizabeth Catlett and Francisco Mora. When they returned from their vacation, they found out they were expecting their first child. Khari Kamau was later born in August 1976. During those years, Siggy worked various Security Officer roles in the Jackson area while enrolling at Jackson State University, majoring in Political Science. At the request of his father in the Fall of 1980, Siggy moved his family to 2205 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive to protect his mother Margaret. Upon his father's death in October 1980, he worked for his mother as her personal assistant and videographer, escorting her to various engagements supporting her all over the country. On March 3, 1981, Norma and Siggy welcomed their second child, Sigismund Walker Alexander, II. Their family was completed with the birth of Jamian Sol Alexander in 1987. Siggy continued to serve and protect his mother until her death in 1998. Siggy excelled in customer service. He worked at the neighborhood community store for 8 years and then moved on to Academy Sports and Outdoors in Ridgeland where he served in a lead role and was affectionately called, "Mr. Alex". Siggy continued to serve his country and fellow service members at the VFW Post 9832 by being an active member. In 2008, Siggy was a Mississippi State delegate for Barack Obama and spoke and performed poetry at various events. Siggy loved music, creative writing, Jackson State Athletics, the Sonic Boom of the South and most importantly his church families at Central United Methodist Church (Jackson) and Mt. Nebo CME Church (Baldwyn) where he attended until his sickness immobilized him. In 2019, Siggy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but he continued his activities by participating in the Central United Methodist Church and working at Academy Sports and Outdoors until moving to Chicago (Marion) then Atlanta with his son Jamian (Cherokee) to pursue rigorous treatment of his illness. Unfortunately at 2021's end he lost his beloved sister Margaret from complications from Cancer. On March 9, 2022, while living with his son, Jamian and his family in Logansville, Georgia, Siggy made his Heavenly transition to reunite with his forever love Norma. Siggy leaves to cherish his memory his 3 sons, Khari (Sydella), Sigismund II (Tiawana), Jamian (Cherokee); his grandchildren, Heaven, DaBria, Haylei, Amari, Chase, Marcia, Jamei Saige and Channing; his siblings Marion Coleman, Firnist James Alexander, Jr (Patricia); In-Laws Gloria Grice Boyd (Larry), Lesha Agnew (Willis), Patsy McGaha (Murry), Penny Kyles, Peggy Grice, Travis Grice, Tracy Grice (Priscilla), Greg Key (Linda), Mattie Knowles (Donald) and Evelyn Key; numerous nieces,
