Dr. EDWARD MALCOM MORSE, who died at St. Agnes Hospital, where he went to undergo a surgical operation, and was buried in Bonnie Brae Cemetery, on Wednesday, was the eldest son of Hon. Isaac E. Morse, of Louisiana.

The father was a member of Congress for many years, attorney-general of Louisiana, and U.S. minister to New Grenada during the administration of President Pierce. His mother was the eldest child of Commander Wederstrandt, U.S. Navy, who served on the historic frigate Constellation during the war with France, and was also at the battle of North Point. His great-grandfather was Judge Job Smith, of Poplar Grove, Baltimore county.

In 1855 Dr. Morse graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College, Maryland. He studied medicine in New Orleans under his uncle, Dr. J.C.P. Wederstrandt, one of the most eminent physicians in the South, and was for some time resident pysician at the Charity Hospital of New Orleans. During the late war Dr. Morse volunteered as a private in Leed's company of light horse from New Orleans, and served throughout the war in the army of the West. At one time he was on the staff of General Polk and was subsequently assigned to duty as lieutenant of cavalry.

He resumed the practice of his profession after the war, and after several years' residence in San Francisco he returned East and settled in Virginia. Dr. Morse was twice married. The only child of his first marriage is the wife of Mr. Paul Herbert, of Chattanooga, Tenn, son of ex-Governor Herbert, of Louisiana. His second wife and her two children live near Viewtown, Rappahannock county, Va.
