Son of Patrick and Mary (O'Brien) Powers
According to his obituary (Springfield Daily Republican, Saturday 8 September 1945, p6), he was one of the first to join the AEF forces to France and one of the last to return. Member of Battery B, 16th Field Artillery. Received the Medal of Honor, commemorating the defenders of Verdun, and his name was inscribed in the book of Gold of the Soldiers of Verdun at St Mihiel in 1918.
