Mark Alan Wells was born on February 26, 1959, in Denison, Texas to Nellwyn Glover Wells and Wallace Ogden Wells. Mark is the grandson of the late John Fryar "Fryer" Glover and Nellora Grace Redick Glover, and of the late Wallace Ogden Wells and Nell Ogden Wells, who were all of Denison. Mark is the middle child of three siblings, Nellora Ann Wells and Brian Ogden Wells. Nellora and Brian are both still living and are devastated by Mark's sudden passing. Mark is a cherished cousin of John Dale Glover and Catherine Ann Glover Giles, who spent part of almost every weekend with Mark and his family as children and their growing-up years, for family dinners, outdoor activities, sports, sleep-overs, and summer breaks. Mark is a loved nephew of Jerry Wells and an adored cousin of Piers Wells. Mark grew up in Garland, Texas and graduated in 1977 from South Garland High School.

Mark loved sports and was an avid baseball player. His dreams of a professional baseball career ended when Mark chose to help care for his mother who was a non-tobacco user and who battled aggressive lung cancer. After the passing of Mark's mother, he focused on family, and his dreams of a professional baseball career ended at age 18. Mark never stopped loving the sport; he loved the Texas Rangers, but he loved the game, even more. He would watch any baseball game and enjoy it. In February 2022, Mark was able to tour the Louisville Slugger Museum with his daughter, Crystal, and he said that it was a highlight of his life.

Mark married Janice Lee Dowell in 1984, and they had four children: Crystal Ann Hollis (Cody Hollis), Weston Alan Wells (Alma Wells), Emerald Victoria Wells (Austin Catroneo), and Justice Mark Wells. Mark is PawPaw to five amazing grandchildren: Esther Icalee Wells, Easton Jake Hollis, Liam Alan Wells, Scarlett James Hollis, and Emilia Isabelle Wells.

Mark was a strong and steady presence in his children's lives. He made the effort to be at every baseball game, to make omelets on the weekend, and was a present father to the children, whom he loved more than anything. There was never a project too big or an installment too complicated for him. Mark built the kids' playhouses, little wooden cars, barn doors, a bourbon room, Lego sets, and swing sets. Mark was extremely proud of his children; he would brag on them all the time. He was able to see Crystal graduate from college in Boston; he was so proud when Weston made the SWAT Team; he never failed to cheer Emerald on with her art; and never turned down a movie date with Justice. Mark passed his love of baseball down to Weston, and they never missed an opportunity to catch or pass up on a Rangers game. Mark passed his love of woodworking and building things down to Justice. They spent hours together creating beautiful things. Justice followed in Mark's footsteps and made four beautiful pine urns for the siblings. The void left by Mark's passing is immeasurable.

Mark's grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished and adored his grandchildren and in being their PawPaw. Mark's grandchildren, also, loved and adored him. Mark took them to movies, breakfast at Waffle House, to Chuck E Cheese, and to the park. Mark was, also, a lenient babysitter whom the kids always asked to watch them because he was "more fun" than their parents. Mark enjoyed boating on the lake with his grandkids and bonus grandkids. Mark was a PawPaw to many in the community, and his passing has triggered a wave of grief throughout the area.

Mark had a love for cooking and loved Texas BBQ. He worked at Smoke Sessions in Royse City, Texas and took great pride in the briskets he made. Mark, also, owned Greenstone Festivals and Events (named after his daughter, Emerald) where he sold smoked turkey legs, roasted corn, and many other delicious foods. Mark loved to bring his cotton candy machine to his grandkids' birthday parties to give out to all the children. He was a people person who never met a stranger.

Mark loved animals, and he put up with all the various pets the kids brought home, and even would watch Crystal's 19 pets when she traveled. The Cockatoo, Chloe, was his girl, and she is going to miss her weekly shoulder rides with him. He, also, loved giving Cupcake, the pig, all the treats that she is not allowed to have. Mark suffered many lectures from Crystal, but that did not dissuade him; he said that Cupcake needed her treats.

In the early morning of June 8, 2022, after his coffee by the pool, Mark was working on some pool maintenance when God called him home. Lifesaving efforts were performed by a precious neighbor and friend, but God said that it was time and He needed Mark in heaven. Mark's children rushed from all over the country to be together and have enjoyed the time to share in their grief and memories with each other.

Mark's Celebration of Life will be held 5 p.m., June 17, 2022, at The Yacht Club in Chandlers Landing, 501 Yacht Club Drive, Rockwall, Texas. The family suggests that donations in Mark's memory may be made to: Lone Star CASA at https://www.lonestarcasa.org/donate
