Isabel Ford Creighton ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Isabel Ford Creighton, 77, of Escondido died there Wednesday, April 7, of congestive heart failure. She was the daughter of former Montana Gov. Sam C. Ford and Mary Shobe Ford, and the great-granddaughter of Preston Leslie, who was territorial governor of Montana from 1887 through 1889.

Isabel was born on July 24, 1915 in Helena and graduated from Helena High School and from Montana State University, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. In 1941, she married William F. Shallenberger in a ceremony held at the Governor's Mansion on Ewing Street, where the Ford family was in residence. The Shallenbergers lived in Thompson Falls, where he was county attorney and Isabel served on the school board. The couple moved to Missoula where he became a district judge and she worked as a Realtor for Thomas and Watt Realty Co. She was an active member of the Missoula Community Theater group. Judge Shallenberger died in 1959.

In 1964, she married Jack Creighton; he died in 1969. At that time, she returned to Helena, where she worked as a Realtor for the Stinchfield Agency. She was a member of the Helena, Montana and National Board of Realtors. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Retiring in 1982, she moved to Sedona, Ariz., and in 1984 settled in Escondido.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Shallenberger DePietro, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a son, Ford G. Shallenberger, Seattle; two sisters, Betty Jackson (Mrs. Mel), Moscow, Idaho, and Peggy Rockwell (Mrs. Clinton), El Centro, Calif.; two grandsons, Rocco and Julio DePietro, Ann Arbor; a brother-in-law, Garvin Shallenberger, South Laguna, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Katy Delano (Mrs. John), Helena; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy James (Mrs. Charles) of Hamilton preceded her in death.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday in Escondido at the Baptist Church. The family suggests memorials to the Original Governor's Mansion Restoration Fund, in care of the Montana State Historical Society, 225 N. Roberts, Helena, 59620, or a charity of the donor's choice.
