Actor. He made his big screen debut in the postwar years, appearing in a number of films as an extra or in secondary roles. In 1953, he was entrusted with a prominent character, which gave him the opportunity to demonstrate his skill as an actor capable of excellent grip on the public, likeable, brilliant, and endowed with an undeniable physical beauty. He gave in fact life to the figure of Mario, in Carlo Lizzani's "Cronache di poveri amanti," based on the novel of the same name by Vasco Pratolini. After this he became a very popular actor both in Italy and abroad, especially in France, but also in Hollywood, where he was cast by director Robert Aldrich for the film "The Flight of the Phoenix" and with whom he worked in several other films. He has crossed the history of the Italian cinema, across the most diverse genres (from western, to horror, to erotic cinema), alternating with minor films and b-movies to important films by directors such as Vancini, De Sica, Lelouch, Bava and Lizzani. He was married twice, first to Brazilian actress Norma Bengell and then to Dutch actress and model Laura Gemser, with whom he starred in several films of the "Emanuelle Nera" series.
