Prince Aly Khan [full name: Ali Salman Aga Khan], was the son of Aga Khan III and his Italian wife, Cleope Teresa Magliano. He became a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry in 1944, during World War II, and he served as the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations from 1958 to 1960, where he became a vice president of the General Assembly.

Prince Aly Khan was buried on the grounds of Chateau Horizon, his home in France, until a mausoleum could be built to house his remains. Later his remains were moved to Damascus, Syria, and he was reinterred in Salamiyah, Syria.
