James Burley Adams was born on May 14, 1897, to George and Maggie Adams. He was known as JB, Burney, and Burley. Burley had an older sister named May. Burley enlisted in WW1 in 1918. He was married to Annie Irene Hambrick and Katie Lee Whitaker and had Lucile in 1920. On 22 Feb 1928, Burley killed Walter R. Tolbert and meant to kill Wiley Stanmore Harrison, Jr. and was arrested. Burley was given the death penalty. Burley died on May 22, 1931, at 11:29 AM, 8 days after his birthday. He died in "old sparky" the electric chair due to being executed for murder. He was buried at cemetery #30 on May 24, 1931, 2 days after his execution.
