Leonidas "Leo" Alston was the son of Charles Julian Peydrus Alston (1818-1876) and Mary Janet Clark (1824-1900). He was born 14 May 1861 in Halifax County, North Carolina and died 19 May 1926 in Rosemary, Halifax County, North Carolina. He married Allene Lee Wiggins 23 October 1882 in Warren County, North Carolina.

Leo and Allene had 9 children:

John Patterson (1884-1958) married Leona Lesta House - 2 step sons, Burton and Shannon Langley

Jessie Gordon (1885-1928) no record of marriage found

William Wiggins (1888-1926) married Lucie Lillian Patton - parents of Florence Patton, William Wiggins, Jr. and Lucy Lillian Alston

Edgar Leonidas (1890-1972) married Carrie Clark - parents of Edgar Leonidas, Jr., Margaret C., David Harris and Carolyn Young Alston

Mary Elizabeth Wiggins (1893-1977) married Charles Thompson Mabry - parents of Charles Thompson, Jr., Robert Harriss, Alice Elizabeth, and Harry Eugene Mabry

Roberta "Berta" Harris (1897-1956) married John Milton Rose - parents of Allene Wiggins, John Milton, Jr., Sol Cooper and Jane Steele Rose

Harriet "Hattie" Lucy (1898-1972) married William Bailey - parents of John Wayles and Martha Bellamy Bailey

Sarah "Sally" Burton (1902-1986) married Clifford Rudolph Woodard - parents of Allene Alston, Mary Roberta and Sarah Burton Woodard

Allene Wiggins (1904-1983) married Stuart Rhodes Moffitt - parents of Elizabeth Burton, Ella Margaret and Stuart Rhodes Moffitt, Jr.

His wife Allene died 6 days after their youngest child was born, probably from complications of childbirth. All of the younger children were then raised by various relatives among them the Cooper's and Harris'. Leo was found alone in subsequent census records and listed as a widow, so apparently he didn't remarry.

Allene died in 1904 and no death certificate is found. Place of burial is not specified in her obituaries, but it is stated that she was of Methodist faith.

Leo's death certificate states that burial was at Bethel church, however there are 3 Baptist church cemeteries in the area with Bethel in the name. Obituary has not yet been found to try to help determine just where burial took place.

His probate records show that he died without a will.
